We often read about success and successful people, and one of the chief factors which plays a decisive role, I have come to know as ‚Discipline‘. I have often come across this ‚D‘ word whenever it has been necessary to pursue and attain any goal, no matter how trivial, and often have come to wonder about this very Question.
From my personal experiences, with the small successes that I have had in my journey so far, including my weight loss, and maintaining my weight over the years, I have to come to know Discipline through an experience of using it. An experience of doing what we have ascertained as a fact that we need to do in order for us to get where we want to, or in order to achieve mastery.
Discipline and Development go hand in hand. One cant exist without the other, even though we often forget this fact. Through the experience of Discipline, one gets to understand the value behind achieving a particular level of mastery, because one thing about Discipline is certain…. its NOT EASY! By no means! It takes effort every single time we have to do undertake it, sometimes even after years of following it!
And there is also a reason why we are never able to achieve ‚Discipline‘, and why we are instead able to only ‚Follow‘ it.
I have always wondered about this aspect. And it only became clear to me from the small discipline that I built and have been following for almost 18 years now…. that of some daily exercise. And even after so much time, I can only say that its something that I follow, and not achieve. Because the path to Discipline is in training… ‚Training of the mind‚. And our mind is a single entity in the human body that has the potential to NOT degenerate with time, rather develop with it as the rest of the body ages out. And it is this very Concept, that makes Discipline a journey in itself, rather than a goal. It is a tool, and a training tool at one, which when utilized with diligence brings to us the invaluable, inevitable results that no worldly wealth can match, because deep down we would know the effort it has taken to get those results.
